Integrating Slack with Jira Using Jira Integration+

As part of our project management setup, we created a Jira account and successfully integrated it with our Slack workspace to enhance team collaboration and enable real-time notifications. We followed the steps below:

1. Setting Up the Jira Account

• The Jira Software website was accessed via https://www.atlassian.com/software/jira, and the “Get it free” option was selected.

• "Jira Software Cloud" was chosen, followed by the creation of an Atlassian account using Google credentials.

• An email verification link was sent and successfully clicked to confirm the account.

• During setup, a unique site name was created (thecloudsquad-tcs.atlassian.net) This domain is used to access the Jira workspace for project management.

• A project template was chosen based on the team’s needs. The “Team-managed” template was selected, which allows more autonomy over settings within the project.

• Team members were invited as needed, and issues (tasks/tickets) were added to the project board for tracking.

• We set up the project “BANK APP Deployment” to be able to create issues,

  

2. Integrating Jira with Slack

• Accessing the Jira Project Settings
  • Logged into the Jira workspace.
  • From the Jira dashboard, opened the target project titled “BANK APP Deployment”.
  • On the left sidebar of the project, clicked “Project settings” located at the bottom of the menu.
  • From the settings menu, selected “Apps”.and used “Find new apps” to access the Atlassian Marketplace.
• Finding and Installing Slack Integration+
  • In the Marketplace search bar, typed “Slack Integration+ for Jira”.
  • Selected the app from the search results and clicked “Try it free” to initiate installation.
  • Jira automatically added the Slack integration to the workspace and redirected to the setup page.
• Authorizing Slack Access
  • A Slack OAuth prompt appeared requesting permission to access the Slack workspace.
  • Granted the necessary permissions by signing in with Slack credentials and approving the integration.
  • Slack and Jira were now connected.
• Selecting the Notification Channel
  • Chose the Slack channel #jira-notifications from the list of available channels.
  • This channel was created to receive all automated notifications from Jira related to the “BANK APP Deployment” project.
